Turning 15 years old for a girl is a special event in your life, especially if you are a Latin girl; are celebrating your quinceanera. The tradition of the Quince Años comes from the ancient Hispanic society. The word “Quince” comes from Spanish language meaning fifteen and "Años" meaning years.


The origin of the quinceanera can be tracked back to the Aztecs about 500 B.C. A quinceanera is knowledge for a young girl becoming a woman. At the age of fifteen, girls were able to become wives and then mothers. They entered as a child but came out as a young woman with new duites to handle. The girls were presented to the community because they were looked upon as the vital force of the tribe. The king of their tribe will lead them duties of womanhood. For many years quinceaneras have been handed down through generations. Throughout the years there are new customs that changes the real way a quinceanera really was about 500 B.C, but traditions always change. Her court and her guest will be attending a "misa de accion de gracias" (thanksgiving mass). After the mass there is a reception that is held at the quinceanera’s house or at a banquet hall. At the reception there is a fiesta, at the fiesta the quinceanera dances with her father and then her mother dances with her too.

In order for the quinceanera to have a celebration she has to be baptized, have done her first communion, and in progress of doing her confirmation.
